Civil Engineer - Traffic / Design Engineer

DLZ Corporation is looking for a motivated hard-working Civil Engineer - Traffic / Design Engineer to join our team in Chicago, IL!
 
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist senior engineers in preparing and reviewing project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports. This may involve conducting research, data collection, and analysis to support project design and planning activities.
  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create and modify transportation design drawings, such as roadway alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and traffic control plans. Follow established design standards and guidelines to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist in performing traffic studies and analyses to evaluate traffic flow, capacity, and safety. This may involve conducting traffic volume counts, analyzing data using traffic engineering software, and assisting with the development of recommendations for traffic control measures and signal timings.
  • Support the geometric design of roadways, intersections, and interchanges. This includes assisting with the selection of appropriate design criteria, performing horizontal and vertical alignments, determining lane configurations, and designing turning movements.
  • Contribute to stormwater management aspects of transportation projects, including the design of drainage systems, retention ponds, and culverts. Assist in evaluating stormwater runoff, calculating drainage capacities, and ensuring compliance with local stormwater regulations.
  • Assist in obtaining necessary permits and approvals from regulatory agencies for transportation projects. This may involve coordinating with environmental agencies, utility providers, and local authorities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Participate in construction support activities, such as reviewing construction plans, conducting field inspections, and assisting with resolving design-related issues that may arise during the construction phase of projects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including transportation planners, structural engineers, environmental specialists, and project managers, to ensure integrated and coordinated project designs. Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and clients to convey design information and address project requirements.
Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • 1 – 4 years’ relevant experience in Civil Engineering, construction, and/or construction inspection
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification, or the ability to obtain within one (1) year
  • MicroStation or Open Roads Designer experience preferred
  • Experience with IL Tollway, IDOT and/or CDOT projects a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including; Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point
  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements
