General Description
The Investment Analyst Intern assists Investment Analysts and Investment Officers in performing a full range of analytical assignments required to manage the assets of the system.

Duties and Responsibilities

Investment Duties
  • Assist Directors, Portfolio Managers, and Analysts in the management of internal strategies
  • Assist Directors, Portfolio Managers, and Analysts with portfolio risk management and report preparation
  • Complete investment-related projects for the CIO and Portfolio Review Committee
  • Conduct research on new investment strategies
  • Support Directors, Portfolio Managers, and Investment Analysts in asset class research, capital markets research, manager due diligence, and monitoring
  • Ad hoc projects
  • Attend and take notes on conference calls and internal meetings
  • Acquire market insight through publications, subscriptions, and other means – WSJ, Financial Times, GaveKal, or other financial publications
  • Input and audit performance data for private market investments
  • Proofread and ensure accuracy of information and data contained in various MERS reports and publications

Other Duties
  • Audit/read monthly Investment Manager reports and report pertinent information to Investment Officers
  • Prepare investment reports using Bloomberg and custodian bank’s online system
  • Assist with hard copy and electronic filing
  • Work 12-20 hours per week (32-40 in the summer)

Minimum Required Qualifications
Education:
  • Progress towards a Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, finance, economics, or a related area is required

Preferred Qualifications
Internship or work experience in an investment capacity is a plus

Knowledge of:
  • Basic financial concepts

Briefly describe the types of decisions made by this position:
Conducts research/analysis and communicates findings to the Office of Investments team and Portfolio Review Committee who make the investment decisions for the MERS Total Portfolio. This position is closely supervised with little to no latitude to make independent decisions.
