Support Services Supervisor

Description/Distinguishing Features
The Support Services Supervisor is responsible for performing a variety of activities within the Support Services Division. Duties may include preparing, maintaining, analyzing, and reporting financial records, ledgers, and accounts; monitoring adherence to the annual budget; ensuring a financial understanding of capital projects and assets; supervising payroll and stores staff; performing oversight of Department miscellaneous receivables and billings; and preparing periodic analysis and special reports as needed.

  • Supervises, coordinates, and manages staff which includes determining work priorities, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring personnel are trained, reviewing and approving personnel assignments, providing leadership and guidance, and making hiring, disciplinary, and termination recommendations.
  • Establishes, maintains, analyzes, and reports financial records, ledgers, and accounts to include developing spreadsheets and reviewing balances.
  • Prepares needed reports, materials, and work papers.
  • Ensures compliance with federal laws and regulations.
  • Works with Project Managers to ensure expenditures are within budget and outside funding is received according to schedule; prepares carry forward recommendations along with Project Managers.
  • Prepares regular interim financial reports on by fund; analyzes variances and works with Department Administration to understand the financial impact of variances; Supervises preparation of payroll reports.
  • Prepares periodic analysis and special reports on an ad hoc basis
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned. 
 
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or related field
  • Three years of accounting, payroll, or related experience
  • Municipal experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above
  • Demonstrated experience leading, developing and inspiring a team of professionals
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships at all levels within an organization, excellent customer service and public relations skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public and others that is sufficient to exchange or convey information and receive work direction 
 
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency, prioritizes well, shows energy, responds to opportunities, instills urgency in others, and meets deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office applications.
