We are seeking an Animal Support Technician I for our Insourcing Solutions sites located in Boston/Cambridge, MA.

The following are responsibilities related to the Animal Support Technician I:
The Animal Support Technician I is responsible for providing continuing service to Charles River Laboratories clients throughout the New England area and are assigned to various sites based upon need, experience and skills. The home base for this role is Cambridge, MA., in the role you are required to be flexible with regards to changing work locations, this is an exciting opportunity to work at different locations and learn a lot of new skills and network.
Essential Duties:
The AST will learn, train and support cagewash and animal care processes, to include monitor animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations and animal husbandry duties to include performing daily equipment checks; providing appropriate food and water; performing cage changing and/or cage cleaning; recording animal health concerns. Provide environmental enrichment appropriate to species. These experiences may involve a variety of lab animal species. May be tasked to assist with breeding and weaning procedures to ensure appropriate production levels. May be tasked to assist with administrative needs, benchtop procedures such as necropsy, and assist with technical procedures, such as blood and/or tissue collection, injections, surgical prep, administering anesthesia, and assisting with surgical procedures.
The schedule for this position will be either Sun-Thurs or Tues-Sat, 7:00AM to 4:00PM
Job Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.). Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Animal Science, Life Sciences or related discipline preferred.
• Experience: Zero to Six (6) months of animal handling experience.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
• Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification not required but encourage to obtain (materials/exam paid for by CRL)
• Other (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities): Ability to effectively follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with coworkers, research staff, client and managers. Strong organization skills and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal English communication skills. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities and function independently, as well as within a team environment, with minimal supervision. Ability to effectively resolve problems or issues by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
