Government Affairs Internship
American Maritime Congress is a 501c6 trade association that represents the interests of U.S. maritime shipping companies and a maritime union. Based in Washington, D.C. the AMC is dedicated to promoting legislative programs which enhance the U.S. shipping industry before members of Congress. We are looking for interns who have a passion and natural curiosity of how federal advocacy works and its role in developing policy and legislation. This a a part-time role that can be completed remotely/hybrid, however students in the DC/Northern Virginia area are preferred so that they can take part of in-person meetings, luncheons, conferences and receptions with congressional members and staff as well as other lobbying professionals.
Duties include researching Congressional Members' status on the relevant committees with jurisdiction over our industry, developing a strategy to effectively advocate on behalf of the U.S. shipping industry with new members of Congress and attending various hearings, policy meetings and professional events/receptions connected to the industry.
