Community Engagement Coordinator

health equity to the community by offering a full range of primary and wrap-around services.
The goal of Catherine’s Health Center to increase awareness, access, and input in order to better serve those with barriers to quality healthcare.

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) is seeking new members age 18 or older to join us in combating poverty in America. In exchange for one year of service you will receive a living allowance, medical coverage (if qualified) in addition to professional experience volunteering with youth driven organizations. This opportunity is offered through the Michigan Community Service Commission.

Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Develop a volunteer recruitment strategy based on the needs of the organization and the desires of community members.
  • Research current trends in volunteer recruitment through trainings, talking with
  • other organizations, Catherine’s staff, current volunteers and students to determine needs, areas for improvement, and successes.
  • Create a training and onboarding program for volunteers
  • Determine best practices in volunteer engagement,
  • Develop a volunteer recognition plan
  • Determine which communities of patients are not represented by donors and develop a plan to engage those communities
  • Plan health education events for patients and community members.

Qualifications:
  • Communicate effectively both oral and written; research, develop, present, and promote program to community, potential donors, and potential partners.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently support planning, development, and establishment of new programs.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Need to meet deadlines, follow instructions and accept direction on given assignments.
  • Experience in program development is a plus.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment.

Benefits:
  • Living Stipend: VISTAs receive a bi-weekly living stipend of about $675.20, for a total stipend of $16,204.80 paid over one-year.
  • Education Award: Upon successful completion of the entire term, members earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of about $6,000 that can be used towards eligible post-secondary education expenses, or a cash stipend of about $1,800.
  • Student Loan Relief: VISTAs may be eligible for student loan relief programs during their term of service based on their individual circumstances. This may include deferment, forbearance, loan forgiveness, and/or interest payments.
