Description:
The Grasslands Outreach Coordinator (GOC) will work with Pheasants Forever, Inc. & Quail Forever (PF & QF) to lead education and outreach efforts along the Interior Low Plateau Ecoregion in Southern Middle Tennessee and Northern Alabama. Primary duties will be to increase awareness of USDA Farm Bill conservation and landowner trainings within the state of Tennessee and Alabama with a grasslands emphasis. This position will work directly with PF & QF staff, chapter volunteers, the Southeastern Grasslands Institute (SGI), and other conservation partners to coordinate, promote, and deliver PF & QF education and outreach events. The GOC will be expected to help manage social media accounts for both states to raise awareness of wildlife conservation and grassland restoration opportunities in groups of new and historically underserved private lands wildlife enthusiasts, farmers, and ranchers. The GOC will coordinate with the TN and AL QF Teams to develop content that is related to conservation practices, programs, trainings, and opportunities to receive technical and financial assistance. The position will also be responsible for 25 percent conservation technical assistance i.e., assisting local Quail Forever/Partner Farm Bill Biologists on Farm Bill contracts or providing conservation technical assistance to landowners. Continued field experience and working directly with landowners will be valuable in order to provide first-hand knowledge and perspective when leading and supporting landowner workshops. 
 
The ideal candidate will have a passion for the outdoors with experience in conservation outreach and education and native grassland knowledge. Good communication skills will be vital to the success of this position. Travel will be expected throughout the focal region of Southern Middle Tennessee and Northern Alabama with occasional travel beyond the focal region boundary to support the QF partner staff in TN and AL at outreach events and for relevant trainings and meetings.  
 
Duties:
  • Provide direct support to local QF and SGI staff in Tennessee and Alabama to organize, promote, and deliver educational and outreach events for private landowners. 
  • Work closely with PF & QF chapters and state and federal agency partners in Tennessee and Alabama to build awareness of imperiled southern grasslands and promote ways to protect and restore these systems.
  • Regularly update and post on social media accounts related to each state (YouTube, Facebook, etc.)
  • Assist in the development of a YouTube channel for both states.
  • Participate in relevant podcasts and other interview opportunities.
  • Organize private landowner workshops with a grasslands and Northern Bobwhite emphasis.
  • Correspond with our partner organization, SGI, in order to be well versed in grasslands management and restoration throughout the focal region.
  • Provide expertise and management recommendations for bobwhite habitat and grassland restoration with a concentration on white oak/shortleaf pine woodlands and savannas native to the focal region.
  • Travel required
 
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Applicant should possess a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: Wildlife Biology, Wildlife Management, Biology, Botany, or Natural Resources Management.
  • Experience in outdoor skills education, conservation education, and event coordination preferred. 
  • Has a passion for conservation education and grasslands ecology.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and/or experience related to establishing/managing pollinator and quail wildlife habitat.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and lead volunteers and partners.
  • Ability to work independently as well as working with team members to accomplish common goals.
