POSITION TITLE: Staff Scientist
 
POSITION SUMMARY:
The staff scientist will serve as the Cryo-electron Microscopy Liaison for structural biology studies at Scripps Research. The position will involve preparing samples for electron microscopy analyses, acquiring data, and performing image processing. The applicant will also be expected to perform some training of new users in cryo-EM methodologies, as well as contributing to ongoing technological cryoEM developments at Scripps Research.
The EM Liaison will aid in assessing the viability of samples for structural investigation and advise users on how to optimize samples for EM analyses. The EM Liaison will perform pilot studies demonstrating feasibility on the 120 keV Spirit, 200 keV F20, or 200 keV Talos 200C, and perform subsequent high-resolution cryo-EM studies on promising samples in collaboration with users using the 200 keV Arctica or 300 keV Titan Krios.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The staff scientist will work in the EM facility at Scripps Research and be required to transport liquid nitrogen tanks.
  • Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.
REQUIREMENTS:
Ph.D. is required in Biophysics or Molecular Biology or Chemistry or Biochemistry, or related scientific discipline, as well as a minimum of 2 years postdoctoral or equivalent experience in cryo-EM.

COMPENSATION: The expected hiring range for this position is $64,480.00 to $87,360.00 per year, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
