POSITION TITLE: Staff Scientist (Bioinformatics) - Paust Lab

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
A staff scientist position is available in the Paust lab at TSRI to perform NIH-funded research on NK cell receptor diversity, immunological memory, and NK cell responses to HIV. Recent discoveries by the Paust laboratory and others indicate that subsets of human NK cells mediate adaptive immunity to HIV-encoded antigens; however, NK cell receptor repertoires diversify throughout life, and high NK cell receptor repertoire diversity is associated with increased risk of HIV acquisition. These data present a challenge for vaccine design, as both protective NK cell-mediated memory responses and potentially harmful NK cell receptor repertoire diversifications are consequences of antigen exposures. The study will identify the NK functional subsets that are most responsive to HIV, and their mechanisms of host protection from HIV disease, providing the rationale to develop novel vaccines that exploit the antiviral effector functions of NK cells to protect humans from HIV infection while avoiding harmful activity.

The bioinformatician/ data scientist will apply state-of-the-art analytical software to analyze single-cell transcriptome and whole genome sequencing data sets generated by the Paust laboratory. They will be highly trained in immunogenetics, bioinformatics and its applications to human immunobiology and work closely with other members of the Paust laboratory.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position works in a laboratory for which BSL-2 training is required. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

REQUIREMENTS:
Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology required. A minimum of 2 years of post-doctoral, and/or private sector immunogenetics experience (before or after Ph.D. training) is required. Strong preferences will be given to candidates with a strong background in immunogenetics research pertaining to human NK cell.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  3 years of post-doctoral experience is highly desired.

COMPENSATION:The expected hiring range for this position is $64,480.00 to $87,360.00 per year, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
