Service Engineer (2758)

JOB DESCRIPTION


Shift: Afternoons/Eves; shift will start at 12:00 p.m./Noon or later as 5:00-8:00 p.m. timeframe needs to be covered.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair laboratory equipment and automation in a CLIA laboratory.
  • Perform regularly scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) of laboratory equipment and automation.
  • Provide the highest quality of service and support to our regulated clinical laboratory.
  • Carefully document observations made and work performed during repairs and PMs.
  • Support the 2nd shift lab tech team through any instrument issues that occur until 9pm EST. 
  • Communicate with internal equipment users to troubleshoot and repair complex and/or intermittent problems.
  • Work with vendor engineers to schedule contract PMs or troubleshoot problems.  

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or higher in appropriate field (i.e. Chemistry, Biology, Engineering).
  • Experience with laboratory equipment from Agena, Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman, Brooks, Agilent, etc. is a plus.
  • Experience in laboratory quality operations and/ or in a CLIA/CAP/NYSDOH/FDA regulated environment is a plus.
  • Self-motivated with practical knowledge and experience repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex, computer-controlled automation and standalone equipment in the laboratory.
  • Familiarity with standard molecular biology techniques preferred (i.e. PCR).
  • Experience troubleshooting complicated electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Attention to detail and the ability for abstract thinking.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good computer literacy and comfort with Microsoft operating systems.
  • Ability to seek out information or expertise needed while addressing problems.
  • The willingness to work and contribute within a close group as well as independently is required.

Physical/Lifting Requirements - medium work or exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pound of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force consistently.
