Sterile Processing Technician

Description:

Performs duties of Sterile Processing Technician and forms an effective working relationship with other departments to ensure quality of care for patients.
1. Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values.
2. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information.
3. Processes instrumentation and equipment according to hospital policy and procedure.
4. Assembles instrument sets properly and accurately for surgery, OB, ED, and other units as necessary.
5. Checks all instrumentation and equipment to assure quality of care. Recognizes need for instrument sharpening, repair, and refurbishing.
6. Records biological and chemical tests from all sterilizers and follows policy and procedure for positive biologicals.
7. Assemble crash carts, tubs, case carts and procedure kits according to established standards.
8. Receives drape packs from laundry service, sterilizes packs and stores appropriately for surgery. 9. Assists operating rooms when instruments are needed while a procedure is in progress.
10. Utilizes department computer systems, including but not limited to, Lawson, SPM, Time Trac, Outlook and Omnicell Console.
11. Maintains established supply or equipment Par levels in SPD or appropriate stocking locations using defined replenishment methodologies.
12. Tag, rotate, cycle count and outdate supplies or equipment according to established policies and procedures, ensuring that obsolete, outdated and damaged supplies or equipment are removed from all stocking locations.
13. Fill incoming requests (FAX, telephone, walk-ins or computer) for supplies and/or equipment within stablished department parameters.
14. Shows proficiency in the operation of hand held scanners for Par level supply and equipment management and replenishment.
15. Maintains knowledge of the established procedures for "loaning and borrowing" supplies, instruments and equipment both internally and externally.
16. Provide feedback to SPD Supervisor if supply and /or equipment Par levels do not meet the needs of the area.
17. Assists with the unloading, staging, unpacking and putting away of all supplies from vendors for either department or nursing units and ancillary departments, including appropriate computer transactions.
18. Assists in the function of returning unwanted merchandise to vendors and close out returns in Lawson system.
19. Returns unused supplies to storage area.
20. Properly stores instruments, packs, and supplies in designated storage area.
21. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
