Sterile Processor

Summary:
Performs a variety of duties in sterile processing to assist the surgical team. Assignments include, but are not limited to, receiving, inspecting, preparing, storing, and delivering supplies, instruments, and equipment. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior.
Works under the direct supervision of a departmental director/manager or designee who assigns, instructs, and evaluates work for conformance to prescribed procedures and techniques.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school graduate and/or GED equivalent.
  • Current enrollment in an accredited or military Sterile Processing or Surgical Technology Program.
  • One (1) year of experience in the sterile processing of instruments. (Additional education in Surgical Technology Program may be substituted for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis).
Incumbents must remain active in an accredited Sterile Processing or Surgical Technology program until completion. Failure to maintain enrollment in the program will result in termination.

  • Completion of an accredited college-level Sterile Processing Technology program.
-OR-
  • High school graduate and/or GED equivalent.
  • Current certification as a Central Service Technician by the IAHCSMM, NICHSPDP, or Veteran's Administration.
  • One (1) year of experience in the sterile processing of instruments.
-OR-
  • High school graduate and/or GED equivalent.
  • 2080 hours of experience in the sterile processing of instruments in the Hurley Medical Center Sterile Processing Department
-AND-
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to keep records and make reports.
  • Ability to input and retrieve data from computer/information system
  • Ability to maintain empathetic attitude toward patients and harmonious working relationships with Medical Center staff, physicians, visitors, and the general public.
