POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant III
 
POSITION SUMMARY: The genomics-oriented cell biology laboratory of Dr. William E. Balch in the Department of Molecular Medicine at Scripps Research has an opening for individuals with interest in understanding and treating mono and polygenic disease driven by genetic diversity in the population. Skill sets of interest include experience in tissue culture, familiarity with biochemical tools (SDS-PAGE, ELISA, protein assay) and familiarity of with molecular techniques including including transfection with plasmids/siRNA for transient protein expression in cell-based reporter systems. 

 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
  • Management of human tissue culture cell lines for biological assays
  • Familiarity with molecular tools including plasmid generation, transient transfection
  • Contribute to development and application of novel multi-well assays to assess impact of genetic diversity for different gene targets including associated computational skills to analyze datasets.
  • Contribute to analyses using biochemical tools including among others protein assays, SDS-PAGE, ELISA based technologies.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained.
  • Requires 3-5 years experience. Candidates possessing a Master’s degree, 2+ years experience required.
  • Candidates possessing a master’s degree, with 3+ years’ experience will be considered.
  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in cell/molecular/genomic/proteomic related systems biology with interest in experimental approaches to analyze HTS/HCS acquired large datasets in mammalian cells 
  • Interest in the genetic diversity driving the biology of human health and disease
  • Ability to work in a laboratory setting both independently and in coordination with other lab members.

COMPENSATION:  Salary is commensurate with experience.
