Total Trek Quest Coach

Coach Purpose: The TTQ coaches work as a team to facilitate the TTQ curriculum with 3rd-5th grade boys in a local school. Coaches are the direct inspiration, role models and motivators for the participants as they help them achieve their goals. Coaches work closely with the TTQ staff throughout the season.

Location: Local elementary schools throughout Allegan, Kent, Muskegon, Newaygo and Ottawa counties

Key Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to 5-15 participants
  • Co-facilitate the TTQ curriculum with fidelity at each practice
  • Commit to all 18 practices, or contact TTQ program staff if unavailable
  • Attend the final 5k event
  • Actively participate in practices by running/walking and doing the curriculum activities with the participants
  • Communicate any concerns regarding practice to TTQ program staff
  • Maintain the standard of confidentiality
  • Attend 4-hour coach training
  • At least one coach per team must be CPR/First Aid certified (at no cost to coaches)
Reports directly to Arbor Circle’s Volunteer & Community Resource Coordinator & TTQ staff

The Length of Season: 9 week season (Spring and/or Fall seasons are available, varies by school)

Time Commitment: Two days per week for two hours (Arrive 10-15 min before practice, 90 minute practice, stay until all participants are picked up). One day per week availability is also welcome. Practices are held M/W, T/Th or M/Th, depending on the school and coach availability.

·       Strong desire to work with participants on their individual and team goals
·       Positive role model for youth
·       Excellent communication skills
·       Organization skills
·       Ability to be flexible and improvise, when needed
·       Capacity to work in a co-coach team
·       Believe and support the TTQ vision
·       Pass a background check

Support: Training for this position will be provided at no cost to coaches. TTQ staff will conduct 2 site visits per season. Also, the TTQ staff are available throughout the season will be available for questions and assistance.

Age Requirement: 18+, interested volunteers under 18 are welcome to inquiry about coach helper positions.

Dress Code: Dress and grooming should be appropriate for the work assignment. Clothing that promotes any unhealthy or unwise choices, including but not limited to tobacco or other substance use, should never be worn at TTQ practice.
