2022 - 2023 Lake Area Free Clinic VISTA Support Coordinator
Lake Area Free Clinic is a part of Wisconsin Association of Free and Charitable Clinics. WAFCC’s mission is to support, strengthen and advocate for Wisconsin’s free and charitable clinics and their unique approach to serving their patients and their communities. This is done through a variety of sources, one of which is the AmeriCorps VISTA program
As a VISTA Member at Lake Area Free Clinic in Pewaukee, WI you will gain professional experience by working to help LAFC provide high quality comprehensive health care to those in need with a focus on expanding access to healthcare for those without insurance or who are under-insured by: helping maintain WAFCC's Goal Seal of the Standards of Excellence by reviewing clinic policies and procedures, improvement of quality care and reduction of health inequality via engagement with the Roadmap initiative by actively participating in webinars as well as compiling and uploading data, helping with the credentialing process by insurance company, engage with planning the EMR task force, helping with grant-writing fundraising to keep the clinic sustainable and growing, and much more. Working as a WAFCC VISTA at LAFC one will have many capacity building opportunities all with the overarching goal of increasing healthcare equity to underrepresented populations.
AmeriCorps VISTA was founded at the same time as the Peace Corps with a similar goal in mind: to combat poverty domestically. As such, it is a volunteer program structured around year long contracts where one receives a monthly living stipend, is eligible for free health insurance, and at the end of a volunteer’s year of service, have the option of an 1,800 dollar cash payout or a 6,195 dollar education award. Our WAFCC team feels fortunate to be working with the VISTA program to help provide recent graduates with an interest in the healthcare field an opportunity to learn more about a free clinic or health department environment as well as shadowing and other resume building opportunities so we can ensure you're successful with whatever your next steps may be.
