HR Specialist - Youth Development Programs

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of the Human Resources Director, the HR Specialist - Youth Development Programs to help us source, identify, screen, and hire individuals for the youth development roles in our organization. The HR Specialist - Youth Development Programs will partner with the Youth Development leadership and Human Resources leadership to develop and implement recruitment strategies for the Youth Development department. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
 
The HR Specialist - Youth Development Programs will monitor the hiring for the following child care departments:
  • Early Learning
  • Day Camp
  • Before and After School Care

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to identify staffing needs in youth development
  • Create and implement a recruitment strategy for the Youth Development department
  • Active recruiting for child care positions, including sourcing, identifying, and screening candidates in a consistent manner
  • Develop relationships within YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit’s communities to deepen applicant pools
  • Develop relationships with hiring managers to ensure clear candidate/interview expectations
  • Update job descriptions and interview questions as needed to ensure they reflect the requirements of the position
  • Plan interview and selection procedures, including screening calls, assessments, and in-person interviews – if possible
  • Organize and attend job fairs and recruitment events to build a strong candidate pipeline
  • Build relationships with local colleges/universities to increase internship program candidates
  • Supervise Youth Development interns
  • Keep records of all materials used for recruitment, including interview notes and related paperwork, to share with key stakeholders
  • Conduct safety checks at youth development programs to ensure they are operating safely and to YMCA standards
  • Conduct orientation for Youth Development new hires as needed
  • Update YMCA training materials as needed to ensure they encompass current program practices
  • Partner with Communications Director to create social media content for recruitment needs

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 1-2 years of experience in human resources, recruiting, or a similar role, is required
  • College coursework towards Bachelor’s degree in a Human Resources related field is preferred
  • Experience with full-cycle recruiting, using various interview techniques and evaluation methods
  • Knowledge of Applicant Tracking Systems is required, use of Ceridian Dayforce is a plus
  • Proficiency in documenting processes and keeping up with industry trends
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented, with leadership skills and an understanding talent acquisition best practices and procedures
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in making contingency decisions is required
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and to work well with other staff members and key volunteers is required
  • Incumbent must possess initiative and be reliable and resourceful, flexible, courteous, and a good team worker

STARTING RATE TO COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE.
