Registered Nurse Dialysis

"Professional nursing" includes teaching of health care and the prevention of illness; assessment, nursing diagnosis, nursing care, and counsel; the administration of medications and treatments; the coordination and assistance in the delivery of a plan of health care; and, the teaching and supervision of other nursing personnel. The nurse's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community. (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses). The dialysis unit serves outpatient and inpatient dialysis needs, and specializes in the delivery of comprehensive care for patients requiring acute and chronic dialysis.

The scope of care provided by nursing personnel in the dialysis area includes, but are not limited to:
  • Prior Dialysis experience preferred
  • Pre-dialysis education
  • In Center hemodialysis
  • Acute hemodialysis
  • Home training (peritoneal dialysis)
  • Home patient back-up dialysis care (all home hemodialysis and peritoneal patients.)
The dialysis unit utilizes a team approach, with primary patient care assignments, to incorporate the standards of care for the ESRD patient. Care within this unit focuses on the patient being involved with his own care. The family or significant other is also involved in the care, support and education when necessary.

Work Schedule: Monday-Saturday, 10-hour shifts, on call duties after hours/Sundays.
