Research Technician or Senior Research Technician
The Van Andel Institute (VAI) is a leading independent non-profit biomedical research and education organization. VAI collaborates around the world to advance bold ideas in biomedicine and education. With a staff of more than 400 and a growing network of partners, VAI studies the origins of cancer, Parkinson’s and other diseases and translates its finding into effective therapies. 

The laboratory of Dr. Hong Wen in the Department of Epigenetics is seeking to hire a full-time Research Technician or Senior Research Technician. The Wen lab focuses on the study of epigenetic regulation of chromatin and transcription in normal and cancer development. Main techniques used in the lab include mammalian cell culture and mouse model, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry and biophysics, genetic and genomics. This position provides ample learning and growth opportunity.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining mouse colonies, including breeding, genotyping, and cohort monitoring
  • Performing and assisting work with mouse models, including basic testing, treatment, tissue collection and processing
  • Cell culture, including primary cell culture from mouse models
  • Molecular cloning and basic molecular and biochemical experiments
  • Other lab duties as requested 

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or preferably a Master’s degree in biological sciences in the fields of biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, or genetics
  • A minimum 2 years of hands on bench experience is required
  • Self-disciplined, highly organized team worker
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Previous mouse genetic experience is preferred
