Americorps VISTA Volunteer

We are seeking a VISTA volunteer to set up a volunteer program in our Senior Outreach Program. Our Senior Outreach Program delivers free groceries to home-bound seniors. Additionally, through regular phone contact, we identify other needs the senior may have and link them to those services. We serve over 200 seniors in the tri-county area of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb, yearly.   
 
What is a VISTA volunteer? A VISTA volunteer is a member of the Americorps and serve full time for a one-year term in a non-profit or public organization.  They build capacity to help these organizations more effectively generate the commitment of private sector resources, encourage volunteer service at the local level, and empower individuals and communities. 
We are a non-profit organization looking for a VISTA volunteer to build a volunteer program. This includes:
-      Developing volunteer roles in our Senior Outreach Program
-      Creating and implementing a web-based system to connect clients and volunteers
-      Create service opportunities such as food drives, major food distribution event and single day community action events
-      Help to build relationships with the churches in our service area
What are the benefits of being a VISTA Volunteer?
-      While this is a volunteer position, there is a living allowance provided of $575.40 bi-weekly.
-      An option of either a healthcare allowance or enrolling in a health benefit plan.
-      10 vacation days, 10 sick days plus 11 CCSEM paid holidays.
-      At the end of the year of service, the VISTA volunteer is eligible for a $6,495 educational grant to pay for future education or repay existing federal student loans OR approximately $1800 case stipend
-      VISTA volunteers get one year of non-competitive eligibility status for employment with the federal government.

What are the requirements to be a VISTA volunteer?
You must have some college experience.
You must be at least 18 years or older.
You must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. National or a lawful permanent resident.
You must pass a criminal history review.
You must possess computer skills, be comfortable with public speaking and have the ability to communicate in a professional manner across a variety of platforms and with a variety of people.
