POSITION TITLE: Research Programmer II-Informatics
 
POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Scripps Center for Metablomics and Mass Spectrometry offers a dynamic environment that will provide unique intellectual opportunities for the right individual. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated and can add to our team atmosphere.
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Minimum of two years programming experience with UNIX, Windows, or larger mini-mainframe oriented operating system. Lab/benchwork experience may be accepted in conjunction with development/programming experience as determined by the individual lab.
An advanced degree in a field directly related to the science developed/performed may be accepted in lieu of some experience (e.g. Master’s degree in lieu of 1-2 years’ experience or Ph.D. in lieu of 2-3 years’ experience).
Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to apply the fundamentals of software application development. Experience in C, C++. Knowledge of database systems and SQL database languages.

  • Not all of the below qualifications are necessary, we are most interested in bringing in the best person, and understand that does not necessarily mean they have experience in everything.
We are looking for individuals with experience in some or all of the following technologies:

  • LAMP Stack: PHP plus MySQL on Debian or Ubuntu based machines running Apache web server.
  • Python and common scientific libraries, R (programming language) JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Some experience with Linux/DOS shell scripting, software version control like GIT, virtual machine setup and/or management using VMware ESXi 6.5 or greater, setting up NFS and/or Samba.
  • Applicant should have an understanding of distributed computing systems, server security, and full-stack web application development specifically as it pertains to a Linux environment.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position works in an office environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.
 
COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with experience.
