Enterprise Risk Management Internship - Summer 2022 (Remote)

The Auto Club Group (ACG) offers membership, travel, insurance and financial services products to approximately 13.2 million members and customers across 14 states, 2 U.S. territories, and 1 Canadian province through the American Automobile Association (AAA), Meemic and Fremont brands. ACG belongs to the national AAA federation and is the second largest AAA club in North America. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Learn about the Auto Club Group and assigned business line products and services by receiving training through corporate education and/or on-the-job training. Assignments are based on business line needs, but should encompass professional level work that may include: gathering information, providing analysis and drawing conclusions and/or developing recommendations, conducting department business/system review, developing presentations, and performing mathematical analysis.

Develop an understanding of ACG’s approach to Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) along with the tools and applications that ERM uses to identify, quantify, and prioritize ACG’s risks. 
Assist in the development and maintenance of risk management processes and governance framework. Participate in various ERM-related meetings. Conduct research and analysis to help prepare materials for risk discussions (e.g. current key and watch list risks, as well as emerging risk topics). Assist with economic capital modeling, model risk management, and corporate policy review processes. (e.g., capital modeling analyses, capital allocation strategy, model risk validation reviews and other related activities). Participate in ad hoc projects as necessary to support ACG’s business goals and objectives.    

 Program Components
  • Must be available during the entire internship period as determined by the department
  • Project-focused, with specific group assignments and time to work together as a team  
  • Individual assignments to assist the intern in gaining an understanding of the day-to-day aspects of working in the department
  • Other program components as determined by department 

Work Environment:
Pending any updated guidance from Human Resources, interns will likely work remotely.
 

Qualifications

 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Coursework or experience in insurance, banking, risk management, actuarial science or related fields
  • Ability to learn and adapt to corporate culture and processes while providing your own relevant experience and best practices
  • Ability to be successful in an environment where responsibilities are broadly defined, resources are limited, and collaboration is critical to success
  • Ability to provide high-quality work products and services to internal and/or external customers
  • Skilled in analyzing financial and/or operational data, communicating observations, and creating presentations for different audiences
  • Familiarity with the formulation and interpretation of modelling data

Required Qualifications:
Education:
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Sophomore and/or Junior (determined by department)
  • Full-time enrollment - Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college/university – Finance, Actuarial, or a related curriculum desired
  • Must be enrolled in their college/university career development internship program(s)
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
Experience in/with:
  • Providing timely solutions to problems
  • PC software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Multi-tasking and appropriately prioritizing tasks to ensure meeting business line goals
Knowledge of:
  • Basic math calculations to accurately perform various types of transactions
  • Field of study that aligns with assigned business line
Availability:
  • Work from May to August
Ability to learn the following:
  • Acquire knowledge of ACG’s products, services and functions to perform the responsibilities of assigned job
  • Assist clients in response to questions, requests and resolution of problems
  • Review records, system files, reports, etc. to ensure correct information is reflected and/or assigned.
  • Gather data and prepare/track reports
  • Communicate effectively with others in a work environment and with the public
  • Assist and/or develop reports/presentations/recommendations for management review
  • Rotate within department/field location to cross-train on various business line functions
  • Work independently and on teams
Skills Needed:
  • Oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Basic PC skills (internet connections, basic troubleshooting)
