AmeriCorps Member, Inclusive Health Coach **10 month commitment preferred, shorter commitments possible**

The Special Olympics Michigan AmeriCorps mission is to break down barriers to good health for individuals with ID. Members will gain valuable experience facilitating high-quality, research-based programs aimed at tackling the health disparity faced by people with intellectual disabilities (ID). Members will do that by leading programs that focus on inclusive sport and play activities for participants ages 2-7 with and without ID (Young Athletes) or leading health and wellness programs for adults and young adults with ID (SOMIFit). Members will also conduct Family Health Forums and orientation on joining local Special Olympics sports and competition programs with the goal of helping participants maintain a lifestyle of physical activity and social inclusion. Members will recruit volunteers to serve alongside them in facilitating programming and in volunteer roles that increase the capacity of local area programs to have athletes. Members will receive training in a variety of areas to support service activities. Current service locations: Detroit, Lansing, Grand Rapids, Flint, Mount Pleasant. Enrollment involves a three-quarter-time (32 hours/week) or half-time (24 hours/week) commitment to serve, with various start dates available.
