Civic Media Intern — Digital Storyteller/Public Relations  
(communications, english, and/or social science background preferred)

Job Overview 
Do you want to continue to expand your strategic communication skills? While much of this work can overlap with the marketing intern, this job will focus on the “how” and storytelling of our communication. You will also be working on creating the 2022 social media calendar, but focus on editing transcriptions of interviews, radio show programs, online webinars, and exhibitions we record for publication, anticipating potential opportunities to communicate our message with the world by telling compelling stories about our work. You will implement effective communication plans, helping with our blog and newsletter to develop strong community outreach to our audience. You will also research news sources and articles related to our work: visual sociology, workplace flourishing, interfaith dialogue, race and culture, etc. to build the content we post online. 

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Design and implement public relations campaigns and other initiatives constructed to inform, educate, and engage the public.
  • Build and execute social media strategy through research, creativity, collaboration, and audience identification.
  • Translate technical jargon into compelling, everyday language.
  • Create and edit communications materials like audio transcriptions, newsletters, and blogs.
  • Create, edit, publish, and share assigned content that builds meaningful connections and engages our audience.
  • Innovate effective communication strategies across all social media platforms, including our website.
  • Meet with your supervisor regularly (bi-weekly/weekly) to understand projects and effective communication strategies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular weekly hours and attend bi-wekly/weekly meetings.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong editing skills for written content.
  • 3.6 GPA in major field of study
  • Influential communicator. 
  • Strategic skills to learn to plan PR campaigns.
  • Strong writing skills that lend themselves to academic contexts and general audiences.
  • Knowledge of consumer marketing.
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and Twitter.
  • Understanding of blogging and blog marketing strategy.
  • Working knowledge of public relations tools.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective teamwork skills.
  • Highly organized.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Capacity to think creatively and strategically.
  • Inquisitive and able to meet deadlines, with great follow-up and reporting skills.
  • Quick and enthusiastic learner.
  • Research experience and/or interest.

Work Conditions
  • Ability to meet in-person near Hope’s campus for meetings bi-weekly/weekly or online.
  • 4 hours of work a week per internship credit

Interfaith Photovoice offers a unique and valuable internship experience, in part because of how closely you will work with the organization’s leaders. You will get to work directly with the founder, Roman Williams, Ph.D. and under the supervision of Jessica Reece, M.Div., a Hope alum. We will work together on creative projects to develop and build audiences for an innovative approach to addressing the world’s deepest divides. You will gain invaluable experience with a start-up company. All interns will get to participate in some of our very own projects and meet participants and staff from all around the world while exploring interfaith dialogue and the challenges various communities face, all while advancing your own expertise.
