Job Overview
Are you interested in religious thinkers and their impact on civic engagement? In this role, you will get to enhance your research skills and use them in practical ways to positively impact communities. Since a large portion of our work will continue to center around interfaith dialogue, we are looking to build a database of important interfaith thinkers, websites, organizations, articles, books, quotes, etc. You will be in charge of strategically organizing and formatting the information in the database and writing summaries and brief literature reviews of important works. This database will also include a calendar of all major religious holidays and information regarding their customs and practices. In addition, you will research news sources and articles related to our work: visual sociology, workplace flourishing, interfaith dialogue, political discourse, race and culture, etc. We will use all of this information to build our content for our social media platforms, our website, and communications with organizations doing like-minded work.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Design and implement database strategy (this may be Zotero, Google Drive, and other organizational methods).
  • Find books, academic articles, news articles, and other works related to areas of study and catalogue authors and titles in the database.
  • Use appropriate software to store, format, organize, and integrate documents and other data in accordance with prescribed methods (may utilize spreadsheets, graphics, and database software).
  • Prepare summaries and literature reviews as directed.
  • Translate technical and academic jargon into compelling, everyday language for use in social media posts.
  • Meet with your supervisor regularly (bi-weekly/weekly) to understand projects and effective communication strategies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular weekly hours.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Research experience and/or interest.
  • 3.6 GPA in major field of study
  • Exposure to coordinating and organizing larger research projects: finding and consolidating necessary source materials.
  • Ability to create a database and categorize varied kinds of information.
  • Experience in writing literature reviews and book summaries and pinpointing poignant quotes.
  • Ability to write both academically and plainly for a general audience.
  • Coursework in anthropology, sociology, and/or religious studies.
  • Knowledge of major social media platforms and their uses.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective teamwork skills.
  • Highly organized.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Quick and enthusiastic learner.
  • Analytical skills required.

Work Conditions
  • Ability to meet in-person near Hope’s campus for meetings bi-weekly/weekly or online.
  • 4 hours of work a week per internship credit.
