Volunteer/Intern

The Legal Assistance Center is looking for volunteers. Internship for credit and Work Study opportunities are also available. Volunteers provide direct legal assistance to the public with basic civil legal matters including information, forms, resources, guidance, and referrals. Extensive volunteer training consists of an orientation, online resources, a volunteer handbook, individual instruction and coaching, observation, and hands-on experience.

Volunteers can begin in January, May, or September and must commit to serve at least one half-day per week for two consecutive academic terms. Those seeking to serve an internship for credit at the LAC must successfully volunteer for one term before being considered for an internship in their second term. Work study positions are available for those who are eligible.

LAC volunteers gain job-equivalent legal experience and the opportunity to learn the workings of the courts, key legal concepts, how the law works in the lives of ordinary people, and how to provide exceptional customer service. This opportunity is ideal for students planning careers in law, business, social work, and more.

The Legal Assistance Center provides an essential community service by assisting the many people who need legal help but are unable to get legal representation. This is an opportunity to serve in a mission driven organization meeting a public need while supplementing your education and building a career.
