Board of Health

The Board of Health consists of eight members: the Mayor and seven (7) members appointed by the Mayor subject to confirmation by the Common Council. Two of the seven members shall be members of the Common Council. Members of the Board shall be City residents who have demonstrated interest or competence in the field of public health or community health, and a good faith effort shall be made to appoint a registered nurse and physician. Members of the Board shall hold office for terms of two (2) years, except the Alderpersons who shall serve a one (1) year term.
The Board of Health governs the City Health Department and assures the enforcement of state public health statutes, public health rules, and municipal health ordinances. The Board of Health oversees all issues dealing with the general health of Appleton residents in the areas of communicable disease control, public health nursing, environmental health, and sanitation.
Term: 1 seat, 2 year-term (the term will run the remainder of the vacant term through April 2023).
Meetings: The Board of Health meets the 2nd WEDNESDAY of each month, at 7:00 a.m., in Committee Room 6A/B.
