Payroll Specialist
Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is looking for a Payroll Specialist to join Payroll & Benefits Accounting team. The newest team member will receive, calculate, and transmit a wide range of payroll related data to and from payroll/timekeeping systems, Human Resources, and third party benefit vendors for the processing of weekly and semi-monthly payrolls for a multi-state workforce of 7,800+ employees. You will have the opportunity to research, analyze, resolve, and communicate effectively with pay or other financial related queries that originate from employees, management, vendors, and government agencies. Understanding of the impacts of local, state, and federal regulations as they relate to payroll functions is key for this role. Put your payroll experience to work for NNL!
Required Skills *
Intermediate:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or
- Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year relevant experience
Advanced:
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited college/university and a minimum of four years relevant experience; or
- Master’s degree in a related field from accredited college/university and a minimum of two years relevant experience
Preferred Skills
- Degrees in Business, Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, or MBA are preferred.
- Payroll processing experience relative to the duties noted above in a detail-oriented and fast paced setting.
- Government budgeting/accounting/payroll experience.
- Processing and/or system experience working with ADP Enterprise or Kronos Workforce Management.
- Experience with a variety of local, state, and federal payroll related requirements.
- Knowledge of payroll related tax requirements.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience in data analytics and/or tools utilized for data analysis such as PowerBI, Tableau, Teammate Analytics, or Excel.
- Foundational understanding of project management principles preferred.
