District Hydrologist

Sierra National Forest

The High Sierra Ranger is seeking a highly skilled and qualified candidate to fill a District Hydrologist position. This position is permanent, full-time, with a duty station in Prather, CA.
MAJOR DUTIES
This position serves as a hydrologist on a Forest Service unit responsible for conducting and interpreting hydrologic surveys and analysis, watershed rehabilitation and management planning, and providing technical guidance within the framework of multiple-use management of forest and rangelands.
 
 You will be responsible for working with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) lead and the Interdisciplinary Team to see that the NEPA decision is completed on time. You will work closely with the aquatic biologist and soil scientist for the Forest to collaborate on reports. You will be the lead for meadow restoration NEPA on the District with external partners.
You are responsible for the Best Management Practices (BMPs) evaluations and writing an annual report summarizing findings for projects across the Forest. You will be responsible for working with the staff across the Forest to obtain the required implementation BMPs on projects. You will be responsible for conducting BMP effectiveness monitoring on various projects.
You will work with the State’s Central Valley Water Quality Control Board to ensure District project compliance with the General Order process. In addition, you may be required to coordinate site visits with Forest Service staff and State personnel on projects under the General Order.
