Literacy means friendship. In our program, empathetic tutors create a safe space forpeople wanting to improve literacy skills. We provide each tutor with the training and
resources needed to meet the specific needs and goals of their learner. Time,
commitment, and understanding is essential for these key partners in our mission.
Empowering learners to overcome their literacy barrier extends far beyond learning to
read or write - it changes the course of their life.
Through regularly scheduled meetings, our tutor/learner pairs foster much more than reading, writing, and conversational skills – they build an authentic connection. When we deepen our understanding of each other, we share our humanity. We expand each other’s networks and cultural knowledge, strengthening the social fabric of our community. When you give your time to tutor, you share a sense of belonging. Together our tutors and learners discover new purpose, identity, empathy, and confidence for the future.
