Grand Rapids Symphony Development Intern

SEPTEMBER – DECEMBER 2021 INTERNSHIP - DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
 
The Grand Rapids Symphony is looking for dynamic, confident, college-level student leaders to support our Development department including individual, corporate, and foundation development efforts, fund and friend-raising events, the annual campaign, special events, as well as its volunteer program and organizational administration. These internships will include office hours during the business day and some evening and/or weekend hours. Although unpaid, these are higher level internships that promise marketable experience with a leading cultural organization. Undergraduate and graduate student applicants welcome. Bilingual applicants and students with Raiser’s Edge (Blackbaud) CRM software experience are encouraged to apply.

REQUIREMENTS
We are looking for students who wish to grow their overall professional skills and would enjoy a unique and varied learning opportunity with the largest cultural organization in West Michigan. Your work will include direct hands on responsibilities with a variety of projects and assignments while working side by side with the very best in non-profit leadership. Strong communication and organizational skills, willingness to learn, interest in working with donors, volunteers, staff and leadership, experience with Microsoft Office and social media, and the ability to multi-task are important.

Your work may include, but is not limited to:
  • Making donor thank you calls; must be comfortable and effective on the phone
  • Writing monthly donor thank you messages and e-newsletter; must be a competent writer
  • Data entry and mail mergers – you’ll learn excel, Raiser’s Edge, etc.
  • Supporting Development staff both in-office and at events; must be organized and able to adjust to changes
  • Manage monthly volunteer program social media projects; must be creative and able to follow a timeline

TIME COMMITMENT
This internship is flexible. We will work with your schedule, but 15 to 20 hours is needed per week for each internship position. There will be weeks when more than 20 hours are requested at concerts, events or for special projects if the student is available, and evening hours. We are open to interns returning for a second semester based on their interest and performance.
