Be among the plants, virtually - support the National Forests in North Carolina botany program! FS-USA-7

Interested in learning more about native plants in National Forests? Do you want to help support threatened and endangered plant species? Do you have strong data management and attention to detail skills? Are you interested in helping others to learn more about the green world around us?

The National Forests in North Carolina (NFsNC) are the Pisgah, Nantahala, Uwharrie, and Croatan National Forests. Every year 7 million people visit these 1.25 million acres of public lands to camp, hike, mountain bike, hunt, fish, take scenic drives, or enjoy the forest's solitude.

eInterns will provide database and cataloging support for the botany program throughout the Pisgah National Forest.
Specific projects, in order of priority, include:
• Cataloging and file management of botanical reports for archived projects
• Invasive species treatment plan development support
• Data entry for botanical surveys, invasive species, and rare plant locations
• Updates to the Rare Plant database
• Writing rare plant species descriptions and analyzing populations for reports
• Creating maps and field guides to rare plant locations along Appalachian Trail for Section maintainers
• Other projects as skills and interest match

- Connections with the Southern Region’s Recruitment Team to support job skills like building a federal resume, navigating USAJobs, and interviewing for federal jobs
- Mentors will provide endorsement of skills & recommendations on LinkedIn following a VSFS’s interns successful completion of the program/academic year

VSFS interns will be signed up under Individual Volunteer Agreements (OF-301a). All VSFS interns are required to record their hours worked on this project and will be reported in the Volunteer & Service Programs Accomplishments Database (VSReports), the Forest Service’s official national reporting database.
