Visual Information Specialist Intern

Position Responsibilities will include:

The job will require outside exposure to heat and elements, driving, walking/hiking long distances, lifting 25+ pounds, customer service skills and computer skills. Earlier start date can be considered if applicable. Career goals or skills will be considered for alterations to work plan activities.
 
 
Benefits:
  • Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $ $4,266.50 (pre-tax).

Stewards Individual Placements (SIP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.
 
SIPP in partnership with Gulf Islands National Seashore are seeking a Youth Ambassador and Civic Leadership intern who will improve the visitor experience, resource stewardship, and safety through improved and enhanced communications products through traditional and new media. Gulf Islands National Seashore is one of the most visited national parks in the country with 4-5 million visitors per year. The park is constantly working to improve visitor the visitor's experience both in person and digitally, resource understanding, and ensure visitor safety by providing the best information in the most appropriate locations. Work completed by the intern will improve visitor understanding and resource stewardship through several projects which directly impact the visitor experience. The intern will also work with several external partners to build the next generation of park supporters. Finally, the intern will engage the community in new and innovative way increasing the park's community relations.
 
Gulf Islands National Seashore is home to many critical habitats to include the barrier islands, and several endangered or threaten species. The barrier islands also provide mainland communities in Florida and Mississippi, protection from strong tropical systems. The intern will play a critical role in preserving more than 130,000 acres of Gulf Islands National Seashore by increasing the visitor's understanding of the barrier islands and resources needed to protect it.
