Tech Student (Undergraduate) Research Intern

The Energy Policy and Economics Group of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), located in Richland, WA, is seeking an undergraduate student to help support our work for the U.S. Department of Energy Building America program. As an intern you’ll learn about (and contribute to) DOE-sponsored building science research into building and renovating homes to be more energy efficient, durable, healthy, and disaster resistant while helping to update and maintain the Building America Solution Center, an online resource for home builders, contractors, code officials, energy raters, and realtors. You’ll also learn about DOE’s Zero Energy Ready Home program while supporting other Building America-related tasks as needed.
The Energy Policy and Economics Group at PNNL is comprised of an interdisciplinary team of economists, scientists, and engineers dedicated to understanding all aspects of energy efficient buildings, energy markets including efficient technologies, alternative energy resources, resource extraction, national and local impacts of policy, and the interface between human and natural systems.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must be degree-seeking students enrolled at an accredited college or university. Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall GPA of 2.5.

Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a currently enrolled undergraduate having the following education, aptitude, and technical capabilities:
  • Organized, efficient, detail-oriented, willing to take direction, and able to focus for long periods when not supervised.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, and Drupal, or other web page development software.
  • Residential construction experience and/or interest.
  • Paid or volunteer experience in construction skills or trades desired.

Demonstrated excellent English written and oral communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment are necessary. Applicants should attach to their resume a cover letter describing their relevant qualifications and experience.
  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in construction management, construction engineering, architecture, environmental engineering, environmental science, web development, or other technical field desire
  • 3.0 GPA or higher is preferred
