Variable Hour
Rate of Pay: $14.50 per hour

This is an Intern position open to current students enrolled in a degree program of an accredited college or university. Public Administration, Public Policy, or Engineering majors preferred. Please see below for timeline and posting process.

JOB DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

The Intern position is temporary position that is intended to provide educational and professional work experience for college students. The work is performed under the general supervision of the assigned Division Manager or Department Head; however, an employee in this classification may be assigned to work in any Department or Division in the Township.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed.)

  • Supports Supervisor's Office with benchmarking alternative energy and electric vehicle implementation and policies in various municipalities
  • Assists with community surveys by contacting other municipalities, gathering and tracking information
  • Responds to telephone inquiries
  • Prepares graphic presentation materials
  • Assists in communicating and interpreting municipal regulations
  • Operates office machinery and municipal equipment
  • Performs technical/professional or programming tasks related to area of assignment
  • Performs other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Current student enrolled in a degree program of an accredited college or university. Public Administration, Public Policy, or Engineering majors preferred
  • Ability to review and understand technical documents and policies and gather information for benchmarking
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft 360 and conduct online research
  • Ability to effectively communicate to the public and Township employees
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the public and establish effective working relationships with other employees
  • Must possess a current, valid Driver's License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns; which includes, but is not limited to, convictions for reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license, or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving
  • This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting constraints and staff availability

Posting Period

  • Applications will be accepted from May 6th through May 18th
  • This is an external posting open to all college students enrolled in a degree program. Public Administration, Public Policy, or Engineering majors preferred
  • A completed application must be submitted by the posted deadline date to be considered for this position. Applications not completed in their entirety will not be considered
  • This is an at-will job opportunity. Employees in this position are not full-time and will be classified as variable hour employees. Hours fluctuate week to week. Work hours are determined based on workload, budget and availability

Application Screening

Interviews Held

  • Interviews will be held on May 26th and May 27th

Pre-employment requirements

  • Being hired to fill a vacant position will require reference checking, background information, working history verification, driving record verification, physical exam, drug screen and new hire orientation

  • June 14th
