District Internship: Office of Kyra Harris Bolden

The Lansing office of State Rep. Kyra Harris Bolden is seeking constituent relations interns. Rep. Bolden is a Democrat entering her second term, representing the 35th House District (Southfield, Lathrup Village, Franklin, Bingham Farms, and Beverly Hills). She currently serves as Assistant Leader for the Democratic Caucus and is a member of the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus and Michigan Progressive Women’s Caucus.
 
After a successful first term in the Legislature, Rep. Bolden is looking for interns for the summer who will work closely with the Representative’s staff by:
 
·      Performing constituent relations work, such as community outreach via in person communication, text messages, & phone calls, drafting constituent correspondence, and assisting with constituent casework with state agencies;
·      Coordinating community outreach by researching ongoing events in the district worth of celebration, and assisting with constituent-facing virtual events;
·      Performing news clipping and tracking of stories in Lansing and in the District and reporting back to staff;
·      Conducting legislative research and bill tracking;
·      Other special projects as required.
 
Prospective interns should have interest in the workings of state and local government with strong verbal and written communications skills and robust research capabilities. Candidates should be able to travel to the 35th House District several times a week. Connections to the 35th House District are preferred, but not required.
 
Applicants should be current high school students in at least their second year or college students who are able to commit 10-20 hours per week working in person (outdoors) in district or remotely for the Representative’s Lansing office. School credit for this internship can be arranged per university policies.
