Program Overview
Our goal is to build a better Wisconsin by assisting local organizations increase capacity and sustainability for programs focused on alleviating poverty, while developing new leadership to help strengthen Wisconsin’s communities and move them “forward.” With passion, commitment, and hard work, our VISTAs help affiliates bring individuals & communities out of poverty.

Member Duties & Responsibilities
GOAL: You will develop Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha’s volunteer program, building on the contributions of previous VISTA members, and strengthening and expanding the volunteer base to increase the affiliate’s capacity to build more houses and partner with more families.

OBJECTIVES
  • Assess current volunteer program and make improvements as needed, focusing on recruitment, data management, and volunteer retention.
  • Work with stakeholders to implement the new volunteer management system, including training for staff and volunteers.
  • Create calendar and guidelines for promoting volunteer programs and events.
  • Create policies and procedures for Volunteer Recognition Program.
  • Expand volunteer training curriculum.
  • Enhance training program using information collected from other affiliates’ and organizations’ curriculum, including my.habitat.com.
  • Organize volunteer trainings, in coordination with staff.
  • Foster collaborative partnerships to support expansion of affiliate’s volunteer efforts
  • Continue to build relationships with current partners
  • Reach out to potential partners, including distributing targeted outreach materials and communicating opportunities
  • Develop Volunteer Orientation Program
  • Research other programs
  • Help create materials to advertise the program, both generally and to recruit volunteers
  • Create and host orientation meetings (virtual or in person)

Qualifications
  • A demonstrated understanding and enthusiasm for VISTA and its core mission of fighting poverty
  • Available to serve in a full-time capacity for one year
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to be a self-starter and work independently with moderate supervision
  • Basic competency in Microsoft Office products, email, the internet, & social media
  • Experience with Google Drive a plus.
  • A positive attitude, flexibility, attention to detail, strong organizational skills and an ability to multitask.
  • Cultural sensitivity and an ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and multiple age groups.
  • Access to reliable transportation for project related travel (mileage reimbursed)

  • $1,116/month living allowance (before taxes)
  • Choice of the $6,345 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or the $1,800 End of Service Cash Stipend
  • Basic Health Coverage
  • Relocation Assistance (if applicable): $750 + $0.40/mile if moving more than 50 miles to serve.
  • Child Care Assistance (if applicable)
  • Personal Leave: 10 personal days & 10 sick days + holiday schedule of the affiliate
  • Student loan deferment available on federally backed student loans (e.g. Stafford, Perkins, etc)
