Content Design Summer Internship

Content Design Intern

Who we are and what we stand for

We are wildly inspired by people who work for themselves. Small business owners are brave, bold, and creative, and they fuel our global economy. In the US, small businesses employ 60% of the workforce and create 80% of new jobs, and internationally the stats are even more mind blowing. But the odds are stacked against these small businesses. One out of two fails in the first five years, two of three fail in the first ten.

Here at Intuit, our Small Business and Self-Employed Group is determined to change those stats by 2025. We are driven and passionate, devoted to creating tools and services that improve the chances of success for small businesses around the world--from mileage tracking to invoicing, from payroll to accounting, from creating new ways to access capital and improve cash flow, to forging deep connections to those with professional expertise. We live and breathe the problems small businesses experience, and we work tirelessly to change their anxieties to feelings of success and accomplishment.

Our content designers are involved in every step of a project, and partner deeply with interaction and visual designers to gather insights, brainstorm, prototype, and experiment our way to the launch of elegant and easy-to-use tools. Content design brings storytelling skills and empathy to the product party, crafting the human conversation that helps to reassure, inspire, and celebrate right along with our small businesses.

We’re looking for a creative and enthusiastic content design intern to join our team--a global design community of over 250 interaction, visual, motion, content designers and researchers located in Silicon Valley, Toronto, London, Paris, Sydney, Sao Paulo and Bangalore. We’re inspired by the courage, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit of our small-business customers. If you’re ready to create bold and delightful solutions that power prosperity around the globe, we want to hear from you.

What you’ll do

●    Partner closely with product and visual designers to build easy-to-use products that solve real problems for real people.
●    Transform complex accounting jargon into conversational, approachable language. Yep, sometimes you’ll be an interpreter.
●    Craft UI text, product messaging, landing pages, emails, and other project deliverables. We’re hoping you’re up for pushing our voice and tone a bit.
●    Collaborate effectively with other designers, content strategists, product managers, marketers, and researchers. We are one big team, and we value everyone’s insights.
●    Eagerly solicit feedback and contribute constructively to peer reviews. You are not alone.
●    Advance a strong point of view, backed up by personal expertise, design rationale, customer data, and industry trends.
●    Explore tons of ideas and then narrow to 2 or 3 based on experimentation and customer research.

What we want to see

●    Experience in journalism, content design, content strategy, interaction design, or a related field.
●    Expertise conveying ideas and concepts through storytelling. You dig words and you understand the power of prose.
●    Knowledge of or interest in design principles and methods. You want to be a designer who works with words. If you have a good understanding of intuitive functionality, interaction, user interfaces, and navigation, so much the better.
●    Curiosity and commitment to testing new ideas and innovating to drive business results. We love nimble thinkers.
●    Evidence of the ability to partner and collaborate.
●    A strong portfolio demonstrating your writing craft.
●    Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Human-Computer Interaction Design, or another relevant field. A Master’s would be great, too.
