Student Intern - Public Health Logistics Technician

Purpose:  This part-time position will provide support for health studies and/or biomonitoring projects being conducted by the Division of Environmental Health at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. This position provides support to the epidemiology, data management and logistics team such as participant recruitment efforts, quality assurance and quality control of results letters, as well as dissemination of results.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure Quality Assurance and Quality Control checks have been completed for laboratory results before disseminating letters to participants.
  • Assist with results letter dissemination (reviewing, organizing and mailing of results letter).
  • Develop and assist with new forms, templates, and other documents for dissemination of results letters.
  • Track results dissemination process in REDCap and other tracking systems such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.
  • Conduct door knocking events organized by the Division of Environmental Health.
  • Support general logistical and administrative support duties as needed (e.g. take detailed notes at meetings, maintain data in spreadsheets, etc.).
  • Provide additional support to the Division of Environmental Health as requested.
  • Assigned duties may change day to day, flexibility and adaptability are important for this position.
  • Availability to work up to 20 hours each week.

Qualifications/Requirements:
 
Education:  A high school diploma or equivalency, with current enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program is required. Priority will be given to students working towards public health or epidemiology fields.
 
Experience: Experience with public health focused research involving human subjects preferred. Basic training in epidemiological topics such as study design, survey development, and scientific communication preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Physical requirements consistent with a standard office environment. Will be working remotely during COVID. There may be times when work outside of regular hours is necessary for the completion of a project. Items and supplies can be bulky and weigh up to 50lbs. May occasionally be exposed to cold or wet weather conditions. Requires valid vehicle operator’s license. May require some travel within the State.
