GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 


The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking an Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Crew Lead based out of Evanston, WY. This 8-month position will assist the E80 AIS specialist in implementing the state's aquatic invasive species program. The successful applicant will help oversee the E80 AIS watercraft inspection station's daily operations in the Green River region.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

 
  • Conduct watercraft inspections and decontaminations.
  • Provide technical support to AIS watercraft inspectors, including onsite training, decision making, and scheduling.
  • Provide outreach and education to the public on the Department's aquatic invasive species program.
  • Help oversee the daily operations and day-to-day logistics of the E80 check station in the specialist's absence.
  • Oversee AIS data entry, quality control, and ensure AIS inspectors are keeping up on data entry.
  • Oversee the organization and equipment maintenance, including decontamination units, vehicles, sampling gear, and tablets.
  • Assist the AIS Specialist with the implementation of outreach activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


Preference will be given to those with a high school degree and customer service experience or experience related to fish and wildlife resource management, or college course work towards a degree in fishery or wildlife management, ichthyology, or other closely related field and 2-3 years of work experience in aquatic invasive species, fisheries management, or customer service. 
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in watercraft operation, 4x4 vehicles, and/or hauling trailers.
 
**Must have a valid driver's license.


KNOWLEDGE: 

 
  • Must be able to work well independently and with others.
  • Must be familiar with Wyoming AIS laws and regulations. 
  • Must be able to make on the ground decisions with limited information in the absence of the Specialist.
  • Requires attention to detail, effective oral communication, and public relations skills.
  • Requires flexible schedule and work up to 12 hours per day or split shifts. 
  • Experience in fish and wildlife-related work is desired but not essential.

  • Weekend and holiday work will be required. 
  • Positions require completion of inspector training course and certification provided by the Department.

NOTES: 
 

  • FLSA: Non-exempt
  • Successful applicants for employment must pass a background check before appointment.
  • The tentative starting date is March 1, 2021. The position is at-will and approximately 8-months (40 hrs/wk) in duration.
