Education Coordinator

Education Coordinator
The Choice Program at UMBC provides mentoring and advocacy services to young people throughout the state of Maryland. We utilize a community-based, family-centered approach in order to promote quality, cost-effective outcomes for young people and their families. We engage in a collaborative process of service: where young people set goals for themselves and are held accountable by supportive adults along the way.
We are currently seeking an Education Coordinator to serve in our Education Program, which provides goal setting, mentoring, advocacy, and barrier mitigation through the specific lens of college (and career) readiness to young people in Baltimore City. As with our other services, this position puts anti-racism into action through a focus on restorative practices, trauma-informed care and applied critical race theory. Collaboration is important in our organizational culture and is the cornerstone to ensure youth stay at the forefront of all we do. We can’t wait to talk to you more about our organizational values of holistic development, youth-centeredness, dismantling hierarchies and the belief in humans.

As the Education Coordinator, you will be stationed at Ben Franklin High School in South Baltimore to work directly with a group of up to 20 young people, providing college coaching and goal setting, navigating education and career barriers, and creating educational activities and opportunities that speak directly to the youth you serve. In this position, you will also lead the Youth in Action initiative: our ever-evolving collaborative group that aims to amplify youth voice on the issues they most care about and create paid opportunities for young people and community building. The Education Coordinator directly reports to the Assistant Director of Education.
