Beginning Pay Range: $28,470-30,368
About This Opportunity
Our Youth Delinquent Intervention Program (YDIP) Mentor will provide services for children, who are exhibiting delinquent behaviors up to age 12, who are referred by the 17th Circuit Court Family Division. Referred children may be wards in their own home or placed in agency foster homes. Referrals may be either delinquent or dual wards (delinquent and neglect).
A Mentor will assist the Young Delinquent Intervention Program therapist in achieving the objectives of the YDIP Treatment plan. The Mentor component of this program will complement the Therapist, as their focus will be on the child. The Mentor will assist the YDIP Therapist in providing social recreational activities to the youth served in the program. The Mentor will be expected to develop a positive and trustworthy relationship with the youth in order to focus on development of their social skills, self-esteem and desired appropriate behavior. The Mentor will also provide assistance with schoolwork, development of positive peer interaction, community involvement, and some minimal case management needs. The responsibilities will include community volunteering, special projects (building models, etc), and a variety of recreational activities with the child. The Mentor will also be included in family activities planned for the program, and will include the youth in their own family activities, when appropriate, to model healthy family interaction.
You will know you’re successful in this role when you:
- A Mentor in the Young Delinquent Intervention Program can expect to assist the therapist with six to ten cases.
- A Mentor can expect to assist in the development and implementation of group activities for the youth.
- A Mentor will transport families and children as needed, as well as assist families with recreational activities.
- 40 hours per week will be required to successfully manage the above-defined workload.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field preferred.
- Good practical understanding of child development, with the ability to easily relate to children and parents, to provide and maintain appropriate discipline for children, and to be warm and understanding.
- Ability to interact with both males and females in a recreational setting.
- Patience, self-confidence, flexibility in scheduling, and ability to set appropriate behavioral limits and follow through with expectations.
- Child care skills and parenting experience preferred.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good organizational skills
- Good computer skills
- Valid driver’s license, adequate insurance with a car available at all times.
- Clean background check.
- Ability to work with a variety of people both within and outside the Agency and must promote a positive image for the Agency in the community and in relationship with other agencies and their personnel..
- A personal commitment to the Agency’s mission, philosophy, and values.
