Plant Industry Specialist 13 - Pesticide Registration/Certification Program Specialist

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) is comprised of six divisions that use a customer-driven, solution-oriented approach to cultivate and expand new economic opportunities for the food and agricultural sector; safeguard the public's food supply; inspect and enforce sound animal health practices; control and eradicate plant pests and diseases threatening the $101.2 billion food and agriculture system; preserve the environment by which the farming community makes their living and feeds consumers; and protect consumers by enforcing laws relating to weights and measures.

 

This position is responsible for the overall management of the departments pesticide registration and pesticide certification programs. Statewide responsibilities include development of program procedures and guidelines; development of applicator certification examinations; review and evaluation of certification and licensing applications; daily interaction with the public, internal staff, MDARD's divisions and other state agencies, government officials, or university personnel. This position is required to follow established standard operating procedures and meet quality, quantity and timeliness standards for assigned work.
