Accounts Receivable Specialist

Overview
The Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA), has a full-time 40 hrs/wk opening for an Accounts Receivable in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This position will prepare and reconcile multiple deposits in various systems on a regular basis. Generate billings as needed, record appropriate accounting entries, and maintain accurate records of all deposits and transactions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following
1. Analyze and decide appropriate treatment for a variety of deposits and exercise appropriate judgment in situations with unclear or incomplete information.
2. Prepare accurate deposits of all payments and donations received and balance amounts recorded with the amount deposited (sales, advertising, pension, insurance, miscellaneous). Produce and file supporting reports.
3. Monitor aging status and initiate collection procedures as needed.
4. Process all deposits through the check scanner and reconcile scanned totals to check totals. Post totals into spreadsheet for use by controller in daily cash analysis. Maintain current files of deposits and billings in a neat orderly fashion. Research any NSF checks and report findings to Controller.
5. Analyze the daily credit card sales transactions and reconcile total deposited with various sales reports for the day. Investigate declined credit cards as needed for additional information for payment and to determine if a shipment should be released.
6. Prepare and post accounting entries as needed. Reconcile all on-line credit card payments, wire transfers received, and other EFTs to the totals posted to the general ledger.
7. Generate billings and invoices according to the established schedule or as needed for various agencies and also the pension and insurance providers (MPF and RBA). Accurately maintain EFT payment information for designated accounts.
8. Gain a full understanding of the various systems used in Finance as they relate to Accounts Receivable processing including: Great Plains accounting for agencies and benefit plans; Chase Bank check scanning system; the donation system; the credit card system; the product sales and advertising accounts receivable system.
9. Work with the Member Services department and with the Canadian office to resolve issues regarding customer credit and account status.
10. Provide account information as needed to Finance Managers and General Ledger Department staff for account reconciliation and information.
11. Respond to customer or donor calls in a pleasant helpful manner and provide the information needed, or direct the call to the appropriate department.
12. Exercise appropriate levels of confidentiality for donor information and credit card information.
13. Provide back-up assistance to others in the department and work on special projects as needed.

Qualifications

1. Able to support the mission, vision and values of the CRCNA.
2. Demonstrated ability to accurately record financial information and balance receivable accounts.
3. Demonstrated understanding of accounting systems.
4. Demonstrated ability to work with multiple systems and exercise appropriate judgment.
5. Demonstrated proficiency in Excel and MSWord.
6. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
7. Have or be willing to acquire a working knowledge of the Christian Reformed Ministries.

Education and/or Experience
1. Some college coursework required, Bachelor’s preferred.
2. At least two years accounting experience.
