Neighborhood Services Intern- City of Phoenix

As an NSD intern, you’ll meet with experienced team members to improve your skills and knowledge. Build your resume with real life experience. Grow into a future community leader. The City of Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department currently has two internship opportunities for the months of August through December. These opportunities are part-time intern positions, working up to 20 hours per week.

Neighborhood Housing Rehabilitation, Community and Economic Development Intern
With the orientation of the intern towards a career in community and economic development, an essential element of the work involves being trained in and learning about the functional activities involved in the implementation of various programs and services. The successful intern will work with the division’s Management Assistant II (MAII) to specifically provide the following outcomes: conduct research to develop recommendation strategies and impact of neighborhood economic programs; conduct research and develop recommendation strategies for neighborhood rehabilitation programs; and conduct research and develop strategy recommendation on neighborhood needs assessments and the application of community and economic and rehab programs.
 
Choice Neighborhoods (CN) Community Outreach Intern
NSD entered into a partnership with the Housing Department to implement the Choice Neighborhoods One Vision plan utilizing a six-year $30 million CN Implementation Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). NSD’s CN Outreach Internship is critical as it will assist the NSD’s CN Project Manager with community outreach, coordinating and possibly facilitating meetings, conducting door-to-door resident outreach, assisting with the implementation of a CN Business Alliance, updating budgets, completing progress reports and other day-to-day activities. The CN Project Manager will coordinate and direct all activities and personnel involved in the implementation and completion of CN milestones and deliverables. 

IDEAL CANDIDATE(S)
 Produce written documents in the English language with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
Work cooperatively with City employees, developers, and the public.
Operate a computer, related software, and keyboard device.
Communicate verbally with customers, clients, and the public using a telephone, in a face-to-face, one-to-one setting, and in a group setting.
Comprehend and make inferences from written material.
For the CN Community Outreach internship position, the ideal candidate will be able to communicate in both English and Spanish.

INTERNSHIP GUIDELINES
Must have a bachelor’s degree and be currently enrolled in a master’s degree program in public or business administration or closely related field. School credit may be obtained depending on the specific school’s requirement.
