GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department are seeking three (3) regional Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Specialists located in Evanston, Casper, and Sheridan, WY. The goal of the AIS program is to prevent the spread of AIS to and within Wyoming through public outreach, watercraft inspections, and monitoring. This position oversees the watercraft inspection stations, hires, trains, and supervises AIS inspectors, conducts local outreach and education programs, conducts monitoring, summarizes data, writes reports, coordinates with local partners, updates rapid response plans and conducts eradication and control efforts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
- Hires, trains, and supervises 4-8 AIS Inspectors.
- Coordinates the daily activities, duties, and schedules of inspection stations.
- Develops watercraft inspection plans to assure inspection at priority waters throughout the boating system.
- Implement the border and watercraft inspection and decontamination program within the region.
- Leads decontamination efforts of infested watercraft and coordinates with law enforcement related to inspection compliance and watercraft quarantine within the region.
- Serves as the primary point of contact to the public regarding questions and complaints about watercraft inspections and/or decontamination.
- Works with the AIS coordinator and statewide personnel to disseminate outreach messages.
- Educates and informs the public regarding all matters in the region, including inspection and decontamination requirements, private AIS inspector certification, monitoring activities and threats to the state's resources within the region.
- Conducts annual science-based monitoring for early detection of AIS on all priority waters in the region.
- Conducts surveys of existing AIS and nuisance species in Wyoming and responds to reports from the public or partners related to potential AIS.
- Identifies regional priorities for AIS and nuisance species management and research and develops proposals to address information gaps and implements work plans.
- Develops and tracks the regional budget and ensures adherence to fiscal policy.
- Coordinates with regional partners (WYDOT, State Parks, USFS, etc.) to provide a consistent response and responsive AIS boat inspection process for the public.
- Works to develop and maintain Rapid Response Plans to prepare for the potential introduction of dreissenid mussels.
- Researches and identifies opportunities and implement actions to control, eradicate, and contain introduced AIS.
QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of AIS life history, identification, and control measures.
- Knowledge of diverse watercraft and other types of conveyances that is sufficient to prescribe proper AIS inspection and decontamination procedures.
- Knowledge of Wyoming statutes and regulations associated with AIS, fish and wildlife, transport, and importation.
- Skills in customer service, conflict resolution, and problem solving.
- Skills in planning and organization to develop inspection station schedules and meet deadlines.
- Skills in public speaking and communication with watercraft owners, AIS Inspectors and others.
- Skilled in Word, Excel and database technologies.
- Able to write clear and succinct scientific reports and articles for the general public in a timely manner.
- Able to track and manage budgets.
- Able to prepare and complete work plans.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Wildlife Management)
Experience:
0-3 years progressive work experience (typically in Wildlife Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Wildlife Biologist I
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Wildlife Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Wildlife Biologist I

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Weekend and holiday work will be required.
- Position will require some statewide travel.

- Wyoming AIS inspector Training will be provided to successful applicants.
