Museum Assistant - Volunteer
Are you pursuing or exploring a career in cultural heritage or public history? Do you like working with a multi-generational audience? Do you enjoy the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado? If you answered yes! then consider volunteering at the Lula W. Dorsey Museum at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, CO.
This volunteer position receives room and board, selected free activities at the YMCA of the Rockies, and employee programming, including free or discounted staff trips.
Position Summary
The Museum Assistant is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operation of the Dorsey Museum and providing high quality programs for guests and staff at the Dorsey Museum.
Additional opportunities for professional development exist: including, but not limited to, designing and presenting your own programming, working with museum and archive collections, or learning skills needed in exhibition design.
This is a seasonal position (May – September) with a minimum of 12 weeks with the option to extend up to 8 months.
Job Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must have a strong understanding of, or interest in, American History
- Must enjoy working with people of all ages, especially school-aged youth
- Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Must have the ability to work independently and as a team member
- Must be physically able to climb stairs multiple times daily, lift up to 25 pounds from level, and lead a two hour walk at altitude
