Special Event Marketing Team Lead

Special Event Marketing Team Lead (Part-time, $18/hr), Mobile GR and Parking Services

Position Summary
Mobile GR and Parking Services is one of the largest departments of the City of Grand Rapids. Our Planning, Policy and Communications division seeks to connect residents and visitors with information about transportation services, including but not limited to: parking and carpooling options, DASH, The Rapid and safe bicycling and walking information.

This contract-only position acts as the lead team member for special events and direct public outreach associated with Mobile GR’s Special Event Marketing Program. This program provides tabling and outreach opportunities for Mobile GR at community events to bring information directly to residents to make government more responsive and accessible. The Team Lead supervises the event marketing staff and assists other Mobile GR staff in the administration of the Special Event Marketing Program.

The Team Lead position is a good opportunity for those with early career marketing and communications interests to gains skills and knowledge of general office work, local government, transportation options, and event marketing logistics. Highly motivated and organized staff may be invited to help with additional Department communications and operations work.

Duties
·       Coordinate onsite event and logistics
·       Event planning and on-site execution including setup and tear down
·       Prepare detailed event notes as well as post-event evaluations
·       Supervise event staff to ensure special event is adequately resourced and staff is performing necessary functions, including scheduling and ensuring adherence to Code of Conduct
·       Adhere to professional conduct during events and during in-office work
·       Participate in community special events by interacting with attendees and providing information about transportation options and mobility services with knowledge and confidence
·       Provide supervisor/s with feedback about special events
·       Communicate with internal City partners, external organizations, and event staff
·       Manage promotional items inventory and assists supervisor with ordering
·       Organize promotional materials and communicate with supervisor/s about stock levels
·       Maintain storage area organization and cleanliness
·       Assist with administrative details pertaining to events including photocopying, data entry and communication distribution
·       Collect, compile, and record data
·       Attend staff meetings
·       Provide general administrative support and other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Ability to:
·       Present a friendly, outgoing demeanor when interacting with the public at special events
·       Communicate with a wide range of audiences and provide quality customer service
·       Work outdoors for long periods of time in most temperatures and weather conditions
·       Sit or stand for long periods of time
·       Lift up to 50 pounds
·       Use a personal computer for word processing, e-mail and spreadsheets
·       Establish and maintain working relationships with coworkers
·       Maintain weekend shift availability and excellent attendance
·       Maintain a valid driver’s license
·       Understand, or ability to learn, transit routes and schedules and bicycling basics; utilize public transit and/or bicycle transportation
·       Work in an office environment, including being punctual and behaving/dressing appropriate to this environment when not at special events
Bonus qualifications
·       Fluent in Spanish or other language in wide use in Grand Rapids
·       Previous marketing, communications or customer service work experience
Schedule
  • Year-round
  • Part-time approximately 10-20 hours per week depending on events schedule
  • Weekend and evening hours required
  • Weekly schedule may vary
Compensation
·       $18/ Hour
