Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Educator

Extension Educator- Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Education


Position Overview
MSU Extension’s Community, Food and Environment Institute seeks an Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Prevention Extension Educator. The successful candidate will create, deliver, and evaluate communication strategies and educational programs based on research that meets outreach needs related to the prevention of AIS introduction and spread.

In this role, you will explore and implement programs that lead to boater and angler knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors that prevent AIS introduction and spread. Serving as an informational resource for Extension personnel and clientele, you will collaborate in research, engage with stakeholders, and disseminate research-based information through various methods, including in-person and multimedia programming, personal education, and written articles/communications.
Working in partnership with the State of Michigan AIS program staff, and in collaboration with the MSU Extension team of water resource educators, you will coordinate impactful boater and angler engagement programs.

You will also be responsible for coordination of a new mini-grants program to support local program implementation of the Clean Boats, Clean Waters program. Working collaboratively with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, you will coordinate outreach and materials for the State of Michigan’s “AIS Landing Blitz” annual event and will serve as the point of contact and support for CISMAs, the public, and water-related businesses in Michigan, in their AIS prevention efforts.


Minimum Qualifications (see full description for complete list of requirements)‌
·        Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to aquatic ecology, fisheries management, science communication, or a related field.
