Board of Governors Summer Intern (Public Policy / Law) E5 - 11 (Washington, DC)

The U.S. Postal Service’s Board of Governors Intern will work in the Office of the Board of Governors. The Board of Governors of the U.S. Postal Service is comparable to a board of directors of a publicly held corporation and are the principal officers of the Postal Service. The Board is responsible for the exercise and administration of the powers of the Postal Service, including directing and controlling expenditures, reviewing its practices, conducting long-range planning, and approving officer compensation. The intern program is built around the principles of: Earn, Learn, and Serve. The Intern will work directly with an Assistant Secretary of the Board of Governors on key initiatives for the Postal Service. The Intern will participate in professional development and be exposed to, and participate in, the range of activities performed by the executive staff at the Board of Governors, including assisting on projects related to Postal Service governance, policy, and strategy. To be eligible for this internship, applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program with a college or university accredited by a national or regional accreditation organization recognized and sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Education. The Internship is part-time during the Summer Internship.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborates in the development and execution of board activities in areas such as governance, strategy, finance, and operations.
2. Assists in the planning and preparation of Board of Governors events and meetings, including preparing briefing materials and speeches.
3. Monitors legislation, regulation, and policy issues that could impact the Postal Services operations and policy interests.
4. Researches and drafts reports and memos for the Office of the Board of Governors related to key initiatives for the Postal Service.
5. Participates in meetings with the Secretary of the Board of Governors and Board Office staff regarding Postal matters.
6. Participates in professional development programs offered through the Office of the Board of Governors.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in Public Policy/Administration, Business, Law, or a closely related field from a college or university accredited by a national or regional accreditation organization recognized and sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Education.
