The Social and Emotional Neurodevelopment (SEND) Lab at Michigan State University (Grand Rapids) is looking for passionate volunteers to join the lab!



Research projects: 1) Healthy Development and 2) Social Motivation in Young Children

Faculty (Principal Investigator): Dr. Barbara Thompson at the MSU College of Human Medicine, Department of Pediatrics and Human Development
 
Nature of work: We study social and emotional development in young infants (beginning at 2 months of age) all the way through toddler years (up to 5.5 years old). We work with typically developing children and children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Opportunities include helping us with participant recruitment, data collection methods (including interacting with children and families during the experiment, assistance with eye-tracking, detailed video recording), and a variety of data analyses following data collection. Our overall goals include improving the well-being of infants and toddlers who may be facing numerous challenges in life.

Time commitment: 4-10 hours/week
Educational opportunities: We are looking for volunteers who are highly attentive to detail and interested in gaining research and data analysis experience. Human Research Protection Program and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training is offered through MSU.
